The Avian Versus Carbon BMX Fork is our flagship race fork. It's the fork our factory-supported riders run at the UCI World Cup, and it covers every BMX class in one product family — Youth 20x1", Youth Cruiser 24", Pro 20x1-1/8", Pro Tapered 20", and Cruiser Tapered 24". Six configurations, one design standard.
The thing we're most proud of isn't the Toray carbon fiber legs (though they're excellent). It's the integrated internal locking system. Every other carbon fork on the market uses either a star nut pressed into the steerer — which concentrates crushing force on a thin carbon tube wall — or an aftermarket expander plug that adds weight and a failure point. Ours uses an M10 aluminum bolt that threads directly into the steerer. You install it with a 5mm Allen key, it preloads the headset and locks your stem, and nothing touches the outside of your steerer tube. Simpler, lighter, and structurally cleaner than either alternative.
Youth versions use a full carbon steerer for minimum weight. Pro and Tapered versions use a 4mm thick 7005 aluminum steerer — stiffer under adult-class sprint loads and more forgiving of stem overtightening. Torque the locking bolt to 4–5 Nm. Maximum is 5.5 Nm. Exceed that and you strip the threads in the steerer — there's no repair for that.

Which Versus version do I need?
It depends on your frame's head tube and the axle standard of your front hub:
— Youth (1" carbon steerer, 10mm): Mini and Junior class frames with a 1" integrated head tube.
— Pro (1-1/8" alloy steerer, 10mm or 20mm): Expert, Expert XL, Pro frames with a straight 1-1/8" head tube.
— Pro Tapered (1-1/8"–1.5" alloy steerer, 20mm): Pro and Cruiser frames with a tapered head tube.
— Cruiser Tapered (24", 1-1/8"–1.5" alloy steerer, 20mm): Cruiser class frames with a tapered head tube.

What torque should I use on the locking bolt?
4–5 Nm recommended. 5.5 Nm is the absolute maximum. Use a torque wrench. If you overtighten it, you'll strip the threads inside the steerer — there's no repair for that.
Do I need a star nut or expander plug?
No. The Versus uses an integrated M10 bolt that threads directly into the steerer tube. No star nut, no expander plug. That's the whole point of the system.
What headset do I need?
Youth: Avian or Sinz 1" integrated headset.
Pro (straight): Avian or Sinz 1-1/8" standard integrated headset.
Pro Tapered / Cruiser Tapered: Avian or Sinz tapered 1-1/8" to 1.5" integrated headset.
